Welcome to the 89th issue of Web Developer Monthly!

If it’s your first time here, welcome, I like you already. If you want the full back story on the newsletter, head here.

The quick version: I curate and share the most important articles, news, resources, podcasts, and videos from the world of web and software development.

Think the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) meeting the programming world. I give you the 20% that will get you 80% of the results.

If you're a long time reader, welcome back old friend.

Alright, let's not waste any valuable time and jump right into this month's updates.

Here's what you missed in November 2025 as a Web Developer…

How I Use Claude 🔮

A great writeup to start off the newsletter this month. Here is how to use every Claude Code feature. It's not as hard or difficult as it sounds, and if you read this post, you're pretty much all caught up on the latest features.

The Rise of TypeScript 🐦‍🔥

TypeScript just became the most-used language on GitHub. Here’s why, according to its creator. Hint: it's because of AI.

AI Clocks ⏰

This is pretty genius. Compare the AI models by seeing how they are able to create clocks. Tip: refresh the page to see new clocks generated each time. Who do you think wins?

React News 💎

React... it's still mostly everyone's favourite library/framework. What crazy things have they been up to?

  1. Here are some updates that were made in React 19.2.

  2. Why use React?. People are starting to get tired of React, but should you still use it?

  3. This is a good use of AI: Migrating 6000 React tests using AI Agents and ASTs

P.S. Our ZTM Complete React Developer Bootcamp has been fully updated for 2026.

What’s new:

  • ✔️ New lessons on using AI coding tools in your React workflow
  • ✔️ Improved lessons and exercises for a smoother learning experience

Angular v21 🛡

Angular is still kicking around and they just announce v21. Some big updates but the best part is that you can explore the Angular v21 release with a interactive game world.

NPM In Crisis 🧨

On November 24, 2025, HelixGuard detected that over 1,000 components in the NPM registry were poisoned using the same method within a span of a few hours. The new versions of these packages published to the NPM registry falsely purported to introduce the Bun runtime, adding the script preinstall: node setup_bun.js along with an obfuscated bun_environment.js file.

Gitlab also detected a massive NPM supply chain attack. This is ongoing and won't be the last time we hear about Shai-Hulud malware.

ProTip: use PNPM, not NPM. PNPM 10.x shutdown a lot of these attack vectors.

AI on Education 🪄

A good reminder of the effects of AI on education. Be careful, as we've mentioned it many times at ZTM, AI tools can be powerful, but the operator needs to know what they are doing in order to use them properly and not be detrimental to your learning.

Fast vs Slow Programming 🤼

This is an important read: The Uselessness of "Fast" and "Slow" in Programming. People talk about fast vs slow programming languages all the time, but does it actually matter anymore?

New Libraries and Tools 🗿

There are a ton of shiny new libraries and tools every month which is why I have this dedicated section for them...

  • JavaScript engine zoo - a place to compare all of the JS engines.

  • Snapchat team released Valdi - a cross-platform UI framework that delivers native performance without sacrificing developer velocity.

News Around the World 🗺

  • The world’s largest cargo sailboat, Neoliner Origin, completed its first transatlantic voyage on 30 October despite damage to one of its sails during the journey.

  • Cloudflare had a massive outage this month that took down a big portion of the internet. Here is what happened. Blame AI.

  • Voyager 1 Is About to Reach One Light-day from Earth. We have a machine running on 1970s hardware, a light-day away, that arguably maintains a more reliable command-response loop relative to its constraints than many modern microservices sitting in the same availability zone.

Big Tech News aka AI News 🏢

  • Steam is coming out with its own PC gaming machine and everyone is going crazy over it. They also announced their own VR headset.

  • Google has come out with something big: Gemini 3. It's very rare that an announcement like this makes me switch tools but Gemini 3 is so far the most impressive AI I have used and I have now switched to using it as the default. I think it's a step better than the others now. My prediction: Google is going to be winning this race.

  • Google also released a new IDE this month for you coders: Antigravity

  • Google is stomping around like Godzilla this month with another announcement. Nano Banana Pro for image generation. Google is taking the lead.

  • Not to be left behind, Anthropic announced Claude Opus 4.5.

Completely useless to your career but still great 🙃

Best Resource of the Month ✅

I have 2 for you this month. 2 very different resources, but both of them come from individuals at the very top of their field.

  1. Ilya Sutskever who is probably the top AI researcher (was head of AI at OpenAI and left to build his own "ethical" SSI company), shared his thoughts on the industry. Even though some of the things he discusses might go over your head, I think this should be required listening for everyone. Probably the best discussion I have heard all year around AI.

"These models somehow just generalize dramatically worse than people. It's a very fundamental thing."

  1. Warren Buffett shared his final annual shareholder letter. He is the greatest investor in history, but he shares some life lessons that you should all read. My favourite pats:

"One perhaps self-serving observation. I’m happy to say I feel better about the second half of my life than the first. My advice: Don’t beat yourself up over past mistakes – learn at least a little from them and move on. It is never too late to improve. Get the right heroes and copy them."

"Greatness does not come about through accumulating great amounts of money, great amounts of publicity or great power in government. When you help someone in any of thousands of ways, you help the world. Kindness is costless but also priceless. Whether you are religious or not, it’s hard to beat The Golden Rule as a guide to behavior. Keep in mind that the cleaning lady is as much a human being as the Chairman."
